People Also Played Summary Hobby Farm Show is a pretty whimsical farm game that has a pretty interesting take on the usual time management game formula. Instead of having the game separated into levels, you’ll get to manage and grow your farm in a continual manner, much like a typical farm simulation game, allowing you to use the remaining time for your current goals to actually prepare items ahead of time for the next level. Plotline In this game, you play as an aspiring actress just trying to make do with whatever gig that comes your way. One day, you signed up to audition for a role in a TV series that you know not much about. The producers, on the other hand, thought it would be hilarious to cast you, a typical urban-living lady, in their Hobby Farm series since they expect you’d be completely hopeless at it.
However, after the initial shock of finding yourself ankle-deep in mud, you are determined to prove them wrong so very wrong! The storyline in this game is pretty interesting to say the least.
It’s definitely different from the many other farm sims that I’ve reviewed over the years – the “I suddenly inherited a rundown farm from my elderly grandparent” ruse is getting a bit boring, don’t you think? Gameplay To start, you’ll first need to choose between casual and expert game modes. The expert mode is, however, locked in the free version so if you are playing the free game, you only can try the casual mode.
The game plays out a bit more like a Diner Dash game rather than say the game, Cooking Craze. What do I mean by that? Well, you’ll be queueing a series of actions for your avatar to do, but you can’t cancel any queued tasks. Your avatar can also carry a certain number of items at any time and this number varies depending on the items she’s carrying. So, basically, the game will see your avatar rushing around the farm doing a range of farming work, ranging from harvesting crops to feeding your animals, to even setting up your processors to produce goods from raw farm produce.
Unlike most time management-based farm games that mainly focus on raising animals and collecting animal produce, this game included the actual farming in its gameplay. You will need to buy stacks of sacks of seeds from the shop and place them close to your farming plots. To plant your seeds, simply tap on the corresponding stack of sacks and then tap on an empty plot. Harvesting is very easy as well.
Simply tap on a crate and then tap on the plots containing mature crops (up to four of them). You can even mix different crops in the same crate. For animals, it depends on what sort of animal produce you are collecting.
You may need to tap on a bucket to collect milk from your cows, but you won’t need anything to collect eggs from your coops. For processed goods, on the other hand, you will first need to spend money to buy the machine in the first place. Once set up and done, you can then collect animal produce and crops, and place them at the machine. The processing job is automated, and the machine will continue turning your produce into products as long as you keep adding in the raw materials it needs. Everything you produce and collect will then need to be sent to the barn in order to complete the goals set in place.
You’ll get different goals for every “episode” of the Hobby Farm TV series and you’ll need to complete these goals before the time limit is up. Due to this, it is crucial for you to optimize the positions of every single item on your farm, maximizing your farm’s layout.
For instance, it’s wise to place grass patches as close to your animals as possible since they feed on the stuff, and subsequently, it’s wise as well to place the stacks of sacks containing grass seeds near to these grass patches. The same goes for troughs that your animals go to for drinks. As you play, you will unlock new features and challenges such as the ability to hire a temporary helper or the need to use the toolkit you’ve placed to repair machines that have broken down. In between certain levels, you may also get to play a fun little mini-game called the Jolly Farmer Challenge.
In this mini-game, your goal is to lasso, by using your finger to draw the said lasso, identical animals together to earn some extra cash. As mentioned in the introduction, you can actually prepare some stuff in advance for later level since you’ll still be playing on the same farm. As you are well aware, you are given an allotted amount of time to complete your goals, but oftentimes, you may find that you have some extra time to spare.
If that’s the case, you can actually prepare your farm for the next round of goals, such as adding products to the machines’ respective queues. Hobby Farm Show, however, isn’t a completely free game. The first few levels are pretty much free to play but for subsequent levels, you’ll need to watch a rather lengthy, full-screen video ad before you can play the next round. Considering that each round only lasts for a few minutes at a time, you’ll be essentially watching as much video ads as you are playing the game. Ads also pop up randomly from time to time.
So, if you do find yourself enjoying the game, it is pretty sensible to buy the full version just to avoid all of the ads. Of course, you’ll also gain access to extra features such as the Expert game mode. Community Hobby Farm Show is pretty much a single player game and thus, it does not have a social aspect. Graphics/ Sound The graphics in this game aren’t at all great since the game is a bit older than the newer games nowadays. The sound is pretty all right as well since it does give you that feeling of being at a farm, but again, it probably won’t win any awards for quality. Conclusion In short, Hobby Farm Show is a really entertaining, farm-themed time management game that has a pretty unique take on the genre, although we wouldn’t recommend playing the free version for extended periods of time – the ads can get really annoying after some time. It might be best to just purchase the full game if you do plan on seeing the entire game through.
