Although it's possible to download files from our SharePoint site to the Mac we need to be able to check them out for version control. Doesn't offer a useful solution.
SharePoint works (as well as SharePoint can ever be said to work) on all Windows clients. In OSX and iOS it is impossible to open a Word document directly from the site, you have to download it first.
As I've explained, this is no good - we need to check files out properly. When we try to check files out we are told that the address is invalid. The same address is fine in Windows, even using Parallels on the same machine. The same thing happens on some PowerPoint files but no Excel files for some reason.
That leads me to suspect it's an issue with the application on the Mac client. Any useful suggestions gratefully received. The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it. The error message is from Chrome. It says 'Sorry, we couldn't find. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?'
The user is able to download the file to their desktop on the same machine and it works if they use Windows in Parallels so clearly the file is at the address but just clicking on the link in SharePoint doesn't work. 'Add a place' doesn't work, we have on-premises SharePoint and Word can't seem to connect to it. Edit: I had more time to sit with the user today. It turns out that SharePoint works normally with Safari but gives the error message above when you try to open any Word document in Chrome for OSX. That gives my user a way to get their work done but still leaves me wondering why Chrome/OSX doesn't work with SharePoint. We've tried multiple machines and they all show the same behaviour.

Hi Chyp, Is this a recently occurred issue? Does this issue occur to all Mac users in your environment? When we try to check files out we are told that the address is invalid. Could you please remove the privacy information and then share the detailed error message then we can do further research on this? Besides, please launch Word for Mac first, then try to open the file via File Open Add a place SharePoint to check the result.

Based on my research, it is true that certain web browsers could cause some SharePoint functionality to be downgraded or available only through alternative steps. Then sorry but my personal knowledge about SharePoint is limited, if you need further assistance for the browser support in SharePoint, I'd like to suggest posting a new thread to the dedicated SharePoint forum for better response. By the way, could you please help mark your reply above as answer so that others who might encounter a similar issue can benefit from your thread? Thanks again for your understanding and support.
